We received a questionnaire from the PSNZ regarding whether member clubs holds regular competitions, about their ability to host a convention etc.
A flyer for the PSNZ Central Convention to be held in Palmerston North on 19-21 September. More details below.
Also an invitation from the Te Aroha Camera Club to visit their August meeting on Monday 11th August, where they have Andy Andersen speaking.
Finances:
A grand total of $521 in the kitty. The only outgoing was for the hall rental.
Tutorial Afternoon:
Geoff offered to run a tutorial afternoon on Saturday 12th July. The afternoon focused on using your camera in manual mode, and will began with a half-hour discussion followed by practical picture taking. Eight members attended and despite being a very damp afternoon, it was very interesting meet and I’m sure everyone learned something.
Many thanks to Keith & Elaine who hosted us, to the eight who did attend despite the weather, and to Geoff for organising this for us.
It would be a great idea to make something like this a regular event.
Sixways 2008:
We won!
This year we entered a purely digital submission (no prints at all), with the images chosen at the May meeting. After all the judging was complete we were the winners on the day by four points. Congratulations to all those who submitted images, the standard was very high and all our images scored very well in the judging.
Carl, Sonya and Robbo all earned Honours for their images, with Highly Commended going to Carl, Andy, Dan, Sarah, Stuart and Brie.
Te Awamutu ran a great day, very well organised, and had also organised a very good judge. Bruce Shanks is a long time PSNZ member who has covered all aspects of photography. Bruce was a great speaker and provided many insightful comments as he was grading during the day.
Thank you to Te Awamutu Camera Club who hosted us and organised a great day.
Look out for an article in an upcoming Matamata Chronicle!
Field Trips:
03 August 2008 (Sunday)
Pukemiro Bush Railway, Huntly.
We’ll email out exact details closer to the day, but a rough plan is to leave Matamata at 10.00am-ish, travel over to the Hopin Stopin Café for brunch, then on to the railway for the rest of the day. Entry is free to the site, and a charge to ride the train. More info http://www.bushtramwayclub.com/
This is a great day out, so bring the whole family. It’s a great place for kids!
11 August 2008.
Not really a field trip, but we have been invited to attend Te Aroha’s meeting and listen to their guest speaker.
21-25 August NZIPP Infocus Convention and Trade Show.
Lets go over to Tauranga on either the Saturday or Sunday and go to the trade show – it’s free and open to everyone – and see all the new toys! We could meet up with Gilbert and do a shoot somewhere too. Details will be sorted out later.

Show and Tell:
We will run a show and tell section at the monthly meeting. Feel free to bring along any image you’d like feedback on, or a problem you want help with, or a processing technique you’d like to share, or your favourite or unusual piece of kit and describe why you like it so much, or a slideshow from your last holiday. The floor is yours!
