Auckland Festival Of Photography: The Auckland Festival of Photography is a signature visual arts event that treasures a city abundant with great photographic talent. This fast growing annual festival programmes a multitude of exhibitions and events, encouraging more people to celebrate the art of photography through free public access. Photography is a powerful visual art form that the Festival celebrates with CULTURE, IDENTITY, ART and PARTICIPATION events. The festival celebrates photography which reflects the vital personality of Auckland and invites all residents and visitors to experience this through the lens of the camera. The full programme is online now. Festival dates are 30 MAY to 22 JUNE 2008.
This is well worth making the trip to the city to. There are lots of exhibitions to see and many events to participate in. See the website for more info: http://www.photographyfestival.org.nz/

Sixways 2008:
This year’s event is being held in Te Awamutu on Sunday 6th July in the District Council building in Bank Street, starting 10.30am. As usual, there is a $5.00 cover charge for the day with a lucky draw etc. We’ll meet at the Senior Citizens Hall, Arawa Street at 9.00am, and car-pool to Te Awamutu.
We are doing a purely digital submission this year. Bruce Shanks is this years judge.

Tutorial Afternoon:
Geoff has offered to run a tutorial afternoon on (tentatively) Saturday 12th July. The afternoon will focus on using your camera in manual mode, and will begin with a half-hour discussion followed by practical picture taking around Matamata. More details will be emailed out to everyone closer to the time.
If you are interested in attending this (and it will be well worthwhile) please let Sarah know.

Show and Tell: Starting next month, we will begin a show and tell section at the monthly meeting. Feel free to bring along any image you’d like feedback on, or a problem you want help with, or a processing technique you’d like to share, or your favourite or unusual piece of kit and describe why you like it so much, or a slideshow from your last holiday. The floor is yours!

Judging: Thanks to our Guest Judge this month, Brie.

PSNZ Annual:
Planning for the 2009 edition of New Zealand Camera is now underway. All members of PSNZ are encouraged to submit their work for consideration for publication in the book. Now is the time to be planning toward having two images to put forward. Closing date for entries is the 4th July 2008. Entry forms will be going out with the May edition of Cameratalk. However, to cater for people who may be away from New Zealand prior to May, we have this year posted the entry form on the PSNZ website http://www.photography.org.nz/nzcamera_rules.

PSNZ Northern Regional Convention:
Will be hosted this year by the Howick Camera Club and expected to be mid-late October (date to be confirmed). These conventions are well worth going to with some fabulous guest speakers, field trips etc., and a chance to meet and mix with other photographers. We are planning to enter a set this year in the interclub competition so please start considering your best image to submit.

A reminder to check into the elm-waikato group on Flickr for upcoming local events and meetups http://www.flickr.com/groups/elm-waikato/
